Objectivo.com would like to highlight FC Spare Tire, Seatle, WA, as it's January featured club.
FC Spare Tire is an amateur men’s league soccer team with non-amateur aspirations. What the team lacks in skill is made up tenfold in heart.
FC Spare Tire, or “Tire” as its known, came into being in the spring of 2002. The club was born with a roster of players who had a collective 0 years of varsity-level soccer experience. The team even took its name from the informal definition of excess fat around one’s waistline—which many players had.
The team had many a dismal season within the Greater Seattle Soccer League in those early years, but somehow found the determined spirit to carry on. Attrition removed those unworthy of the division 4 challenge while curiosity from skilled players brought about new additions and dimension to the team. Once known as a veritable cupcake, before long Tire garnered a reputation as a formidable offensive club with a stonewall defense to boot.
Annual playoff trip runs and two championships later, FC Spare Tire, now in its fifth year is one of the most feared teams in its division. The team has produced scoring leaders and shutout masters, and title hopes are within grasp with each and every season’s beginning.
The team is led by captains Tim Farley and Steve Lassiter (forwards) and among outstanding stars, it boasts offensive juggernauts with names such as Mike Gill-More, Doug Hodson, Kelly Antoncich, Erik Cannella, Bryan Monaghan and Dave Kalinski. Its defense is held strong by the likes of Don Gill-More, Mike McMasters, Jim Stern, Jacob Pickett, Shawn Menning, Bracey Rogers and Phil Burger. One can’t disregard the outstanding goalkeeping abilities of Shelby Dobbs, a three-time shutout leading champion.
We invite one and all to visit the team’s website, which receives nearly 500 page hits daily, located at www.fcsparetire.com. It is proudly sponsored by Seattle’s Beall Black & Pickett Real Estate Group and Bellevue’s Eastside Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
