Frisco Game Memo

Frisco Game Memos:

Style of Play:
Play the ball in and get it to goal. Play with some urgency and objective.

Landon Donovan:
David Beckham is worth 52 Million over 5 years to remove Landycakes from taking free kicks for the Galaxy. Can USMNT find an alternative?

Eddie Johnson:
He needs a professional club to prove his ability there before ever getting another chance to play for the National Team.

Overseas Double Standard:
US Soccer supporters need to admit that there is a double standard on players and coaches. If we hold our players to the idea that Europe is the best place to play then coaches need to be held to the same standard. So please give Gulati a chance to hire a European soccer coach with a style and inspiration separate from American coaches (Please call Louis van Gaal).

Nepotism:
Michael Bradley may be the next Zidane but he’s the “coach’s kid”. If Dad wants best for his son he’d walk away from the full men’s coaching position. He may belong on the Olympic team but anything else will be considered nepotism.

Frisco Fiasco:
The official attendance was less than 10,000. Why are we playing Guatemala? I knew one player and he is the most hated player in MLS. He is a diving cheat nicknamed for a flopping fish. They played with 11 players behind the ball. Obviously 10,000 supports for a National Team game is a failure for our sport. Frisco and USSF should be ashamed.

Latin American Sell Outs:
Why are these Latin American countries playing in Europe and America so frequently. Are the supporters and citizens of these countries that gutless or powerless? It can't be about money can it?

Galaxy & Real Madrid Rumor

I read this on American Kicks Email this morning:

According to Notimex (who quote LA Galaxy sources), Real Madrid will play games vs the Fire and Real Salt Lake before taking on the Galaxy this Summer. In the Galaxy game Beckham will play for Real Madrid in the first half and debut for the Galaxy in the second.

Also this is from the Wall Street Journal article:

U.S. Soccer League Finally Hopes to Score

"For the first time in league history, every MLS game will be televised when the season kicks off April 7, and ESPN announced yesterday that its entire 28-game MLS schedule will be available in high-definition. Mr. Beckham's pending arrival has also spurred a merchandising push: Target will promote MLS gear at more than 1,400 of its stores, and Adidas has already presold more MLS-branded apparel this year than it did in 2005 or 2006."

The SNL soccer snub

Loren Michaels was on Dan Patrick’s radio show today and discussed the prospects of David Beckham hosting Saturday Night Live. This is a great example of what Beck’s will bring to American soccer.

Michaels admitted never to have had any soccer players in the history of SNL host the show. I have to wonder was Pele never invited? Tiger Woods has been invited but has yet to appear of the show. After some un-original jabs on soccer, from Patrick and sidekick Keith Oberlin, Michael’s admitted to having Victoria Beckham and the Spice Girls in the nineties.

I wonder over the last twenty years which American soccer player may have had the best shot at getting an invite. Alexi Lalas or Cobi Jones? The notoriety of having these guys on the show would have given soccer such a kick that would we really need Becks to save the MLS and professional soccer? Possibly Landon Donovan could have hosted over the last decade? Is soccer so un-cool that we have never had an official invite?

So close, yet so far away (NYRB)

Megged Exclusive: Radio personalities reported eating callers

Unconfirmed reports surrounding the radio show "World Soccer Daily" have stated the hosts have been eating callers who disagree with Nick and Steve. Any listener who has shown an opposing point of view has been devoured whole.

Visibly Steve and Nick have gained hundreds of pounds since the show has progressed through the prem campaign. Sources close to Steve or Nick wouldn’t comment on other issues to the enormous weight gain although they didn’t dismiss the fact that Manchester United has owned the EPL this season as a cause to the overindulgence.

The apparel maker has warned both radio personalities that they cannot tailor larger Chelsea or Liverpool jerseys. Currently Nick is wearing a 7XL and Steve’s filling a 5XL jersey. Calls into the show were not understood because Nick was in the middle on eating a Arsenal fan and talking with his mouth full.

Hollywood United and Fram head to Objectivo Cup Final

Hollywood United lead by both French International midfielder Frank Leboeuf and USMNT defender Alexi Lalas destroyed Sports Harbor 8-2.

Fram defeated Hermosa Beach Soccer Club 1-0 on Joe Flannigan's near post header on a late second half corner kick.

Objectivo Cup's First Annual Final will be played at Nansen Field. (Field Map) Please come out and support these teams as they play for a place in Los Angeles soccer history.

Kick-off time is noon Sunday March 11, 2007.
