Austin Lightning Soccer - PDL Team
Posted May 2, 2007 Posted Under: Objectivo.comAustin Lightning Soccer - A Premier Development League Team of the United Soccer League - announces that home games are moved this season to the 15,000 seat Toney Burger Center Stadium in Austin. The first home game, with the New Orleans Shell Shockers, will be the first of four US Open Cup qualifying games for The Lightning this season. The first game of the season is May 4th in El Paso.
Coached by Jaime Mimbela, The Lightning is poised for an exciting season in the new stadium after tryouts in which 100 players from surrounding states participated. "We have good reason to believe this will be one of the best seasons in The Lightning's history," commented Mimbela.
The Austin area has a growing soccer fan base with more than 35,000 persons registered in youth soccer and hundreds of adult teams. The move to a larger stadium will accomodate expected growth in attendance for Lightning games and the growing enthusiasm for soccer
in Austin.
