Can't wait to see the US U-20 team in their World Cup

I don't know about everyone else, but I am excited to see what kind of talent we have coming through our youth programs. I don't even know that much about the team, but apparently they are favored to make it to the final rounds. There's gotta be something said for that, when they are spoken about in the same sentences as Brazil, and other powerhouse countries. This may be the first US team whom others don't want to see in their bracket. That is a great predicament for the future of soccer in this country.

Of all the players, I think Josi Altidore is gonna tear it up. There's something about that kid that makes you wanna like him and see him become very successful. For one he's a baller. Secondly, he is very modest about his ability and his success and carries himself like a veteran. Can't ask for a more marketable player. However, the MLS better watch, he could get snagged up very quickly.

The game against South Korea on Saturday, June 30, kicks off at 5 p.m. ET and will be shown live on ESPNU and fans can follow along live on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker.

Megged Hollywood Exclusive, Cobi Jones to play next Predator

Sources close to Megged Magazine have heard that rumors are flying that Cobi Jones has been casted at the spawn of Predator, in the series next motion picture. Jones, who is playing out his final year with the LA Galaxy, is entertaining offers to transition into the Predator series due to his eerie resemblence to the Hollywood monster.

This summer Chicago Fire will welcome the Shrek-like beast Cuauhtemoc Blanco. Good luck to Chicago and the Section 8 fans who have to deal with this guy.

It's Official: Galaxy in panic mode

286 of you voted on our latest poll; "With all the trades taking place, are the Galaxy/MLS in panic mode because Beckham and his new team might not make the playoffs?".

86% of you felt that the Galaxy were over-reacting. I guess will have to see how the trades play out and if the Galaxy miss the playoffs for a second straight year.

Angel being given Red Bull before games

Sources close to the Meadowlands have seen Juan Pablo Angel consuming cans of Red Bull before each match. Angel, ironically named, since the drink offers consumers wings after drinking the Austrian-made beverage has been Major League Soccer most outstanding player so far this year.

A recent article, Illegals Being Given Red Bull & Ephedrine, has been written by a local San Antonio paper on how immigrants are getting pumped up on the beverage before crossing the border.

In any event there has been no better endorsement than Angel and his ability to find the back of the net. Calls into immigrants crossing the border, Angel and the Red Bulls were not immediate returned.

Actor, Tom Cruise Buyout?

Did you hear Tom Cruise, the couch jumper, wants to buy the LA Galaxy to be even closer to his pal David Beckham. I don’t know if this is Hollywood gossip but that's crazy. And I’m not sure if it is good or bad. Would the league want to be affiliated with him? Maybe the sport needs a wacky personality. If he is as passionate about soccer as he is interviews, than maybe it would bring some more needed attention. He would be like the owner of the Mavericks.

But, in reality, I don’t think AEG (current owner) is going to sell anytime soon, at least not this team, maybe one of their other MLS teams. There is too much potential for soccer to sell it now. Plus, Phil Anschutz has been there from the start. I don’t think he's going to sell until he sees all of his Beckham money spent and returned. What do you think?

What gets you fired up (passionate) about soccer?

With this job, I read articles all day about soccer, think soccer, and am totally surrounded by the sport, it's great. And I find myself getting fired up about certain things or excited about others, for ex: no soccer on SportsCenter, writers who discredit soccer b/c they are afraid of it growing, people that don't realize how great of a sport it is, etc.

What gets you fired up about soccer? Do you hate it, love it? Is there a soccer topic that could make you debate for hours. With the state of soccer in the US the way it is (and that means many things, i.e. growing, struggling, next major sport, exciting, rough around the edges, etc), what is your opinion? I am 24 , played competitively, am tied to the MLS through family, and work in the sport so my take on it is probably different the average. But I don't know? Please put in your two cents on whatever you think is an important issue, or something needed to be discussed, or whatever relative theories or hopes you have for the sport in this country. Can't wait to hear back from all of you.

Abuse of Power

MEMO: US Soccer

Congrats to Coach Bradley and USMNT on another win and to the new players who were added to the team (Frank Simek). However, when US Soccer is removing marquee players from Major League Soccer teams and not playing them is an abuse of power.

The Galaxy and Chicago each missed key players on Saturday and both lost. I won't be shocked if both Galaxy and Fire miss the MLS Playoffs.

MEMO: Cuba Linesman, Hiran Depico

Feel free to defect from Cuba while officiating the Gold Cup. But we will remember your blatant unfair off sides calls.

Angel: MLS Ringer

My friends over at USSoccerPlayers.com posted a quote that Pablo Angel of New York Red Bulls made recently.

"I think people have a misconception of this league, it’s very tough and physical."
New York Red Bulls striker Juan Pablo Angel on MLS

How can any soccer enthusiast buy this from a player how has 6 goals in 5 games. He’s turned one of last years worst teams into one of this years best teams. He's been named MLS Player of the Month in his first month in the league.

I welcome Angel, but let’s not over sell MLS. This league is most comparable to England’s Championship than Angels last league, English Premier League.

Matt @ OBJ

PS: Maybe he was referring to “very tough and physical” to the turf fields.

Clarence Seedorf, 10 minutes of Highlights

Will the Galaxy make the playoffs? And does the world want the MLS to succeed?

With 1 win after 7 games, Galaxy is in trouble. They are going to need a miracle, if not a few of them. Im not counting them out by any means. However, with a slow start, big injuries, and a Gold Cup/Copa America taking players from club play, they could be in a dogfight for the remainder of the season after Becks gets here. Then what would happen. I said this before in my last blog, but if Becks is not in playoffs, that could mean a serious loss of projected revenue. It is only speculation, but I think it is a major issue for the bigwigs of MLS. Dont you think so? I dont like to play into the media-hype of David Beckham and the "savior-of-the-league" label, but it could mean a lot of bad press from abroad and the domestic ney-sayers of soccer, like almost every ESPN analyist.

On that last note, most of Europe (I beleive) is hoping the MLS fails, lets face it. The MLS has a huge potential in years to come. A lot of European Leagues' fan-base is almost at capacity due to their smaller-sized populations. I also think they dont want soccer to succeed because we cornered the market in almost everything else, sports-wise, and football is the only sport (other than cricket and rugby) that is the last stronghold of the rest of the world. That may sound a bit egoistic, but its probably true.

But I think it would be great for the world of soccer (football) if soccer was huge here. Please add your comments. I don't want to alienate anybody with my comments, jus trying to spark debate. It is good for the mind, you know?

Galaxy Match

I just got back from the Galaxy match with DC United and must admit United's Gomez is a great player and his skill is great to watch. But the game went 0-0 and lacked a killer instinct from any player, team or play.

I wanted to be pissed. I wanted to be like 'what a waste of a Saturday night.' I wanted to bitch out Lalas and the LA Galaxy.

But, earlier in the day I watched Beckham play a solid game against Brazil. I left knowing that the Galaxy have 5 plus years with 'Becks' and things can only get better. After today I feel Becks is still a 'world class footballer.' He's a team member of the 'Big 9 National Team' and MLS has no other player with this much talent to MLS.

Landon's Right, Bradley's Wrong...Period

In a recent article, Landon Donovan expressed his lack of interest in playing in the Copa America, which comes two weeks after the Gold Cup Final. He stated that for one, he feels it is important to be with his club team (LA Galaxy) this summer, especially after their sluggish start. Secondly, another great point he makes is that the Copa America is a South American tournament and that, for the most part, it means nothing to us. Bradley's rebuttle was typical saying that it is a priveledge to play for your country and that players dont have a choice to pick which tournaments they want to play in.

My rebuttle: Bradley could have worded his comments a little better. While no coach wants to be stood up by the star player, be a little more diplomatic. He didnt want to eat any of LD's s**t. But Landon was 100% right.

Think of it this way:
If I am a Galaxy season ticket holder, I don't get to see my best team perform. LA is in last place, have 2 Canadian starters gone for GC, LD's gone for GC, Quavas Kirk is not back yet, Sturgis is gone with U-20s, and Albright is out for the entire summer. The Gold Cup is one thing, the Galaxy have to bite the bullet on that one. But if Galaxy is without their best player for another four games, LA may not make the playoffs again.

But an even bigger issue:
If Beckham comes to a team that cannot reach the playoffs, s**t is gonna hit the fan. That's the last thing the league wants. I dont think Bradley thought about all that, but my guess is that Sunil Gulati has a few MLS honchos in his ear.
