Galaxy Makes it Five in a Row

With a PK from Landon Donovan and the game winner from Edson Buddle, the Galaxy pulled out a 2-1 victory against Toronto FC and extended their winning streak to five in a row (and six games unbeaten). Since Chicago tied D.C., the Galaxy is only four points behind both Kansas City and the Chicago Fire.

Toronto FC went down to 10 men when Marco Reda was sent off for pulling down Gavin Glinton in the box. LD did what LD does best and scored off a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Then the Galaxy did what the Galaxy does best and gave away their lead just minutes later as Toronto’s Collin Samuel scoring the equalizer.

Ten minutes later the 2007 Galaxy MVP Chris Klein passed the ball to Edson Buddle, who scored the winner against his former team. The Galaxy now has a few different situations that can get them into the playoffs. Besides getting all six points remaining, the Galaxy still make it with only four points as long as they can tie New York on Thursday as long as they beat Chicago on Sunday.

Other MLS Notes:
D.C. United clinched the Supporter’s Shield with Chivas USA’s loss to the Rapids. Although the Crew won this weekend against New England, they were eliminated from the playoffs due to Chicago’s tie with D.C. on Saturday. Neither Kansas City nor the Fire clinched this weekend, leaving two playoffs spots open for the last weekend of play.

Jack Stewart: Cosmo Model

Real Salt Lake's Jack Stewart might not be employed right now as RSL has cut him from the team, but he does have a chance to win Cosmopolitan's Bachelor of the Year contest.

So why has RSL parted with their 2005 first round draft pick? Stewart was unhappy about his lack of playing time and let the club know, but Stewart's contract does state that he will have a job until the end of the season. Unfortunately for RSL and Stewart, the end of the season isn't too far away.

To vote for Jack Stewart, visit https://subscribe.hearstmags.com/subscribe/cosmopolitan/11643.

What do you think? Is Jack Stewart worthy of a Comso Bachelor of the Year award? Or would you nominate a different MLS player?

Dida Banned for Two Matches

UEFA is letting the players know that the diving, flopping around and pretending to be injured is no longer acceptable.

AC Milan's Brazilian keeper Dida was issued a two-match suspension for his acting as he fell to the ground after a Celtic fan ran onto the field and tapped him on the shoulder. That fan has been banned from Celtic home games for life.

It's a fair suspension. It's time that players stopped faking being hurt and play the game. What do you think?

MLS Predictions: Who's Going to the Playoffs?

Chivas USA take on FC Dallas today on ESPN’s Primetime Thursday. Chivas should walk away with at least a point in this game, since the last time Chivas lost was sometime in July.

For the first time this season, every remaining game this weekend is important in one way or another. Chicago plays DC at RFK stadium. If Chicago wins, they are one step closer to the playoffs (they’ll need LA to lose to actually clinch this weekend). DC’s playing for the Support’s Shield, and all they need to do is beat Chicago. Look for a good game, but DC will come out on top.

The next stop on soccer Saturday is the Crew at New England. The Crew can kiss their playoff dreams goodbye during this game, because there is no way they are coming out with three points. Kansas City takes on the Red Bulls. If KC wins… they are off to the playoffs. What KC has going for them is that the Red Bulls are coming of two losses from last week—Chivas and Toronto. If KC can play on that, they have a chance to come out with a win. In the final game on Saturday, Toronto meets up with the Galaxy at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy are red-hot right now as they are making their playoff run. Toronto on the other hand has nothing to play for. If the Galaxy can win three in a row on the road, they can surely win at home.

Lastly, the Rapids take on Chivas USA. The Rapids are playing for their postseason lives. They need to win, but if they tie… they need Chicago to walk away with at least a point for the playoffs to still lie within reach. But honestly speaking, Chivas is a stronger team, and they will walk all over the Rapids.

If all goes as predicted, Kansas City will clinch a playoff spot and the final spot will come to the final game of the season between Chicago and the Galaxy.

What are your thoughts? Who’s going to win this weekend and who’s going to lose?

Guess Who's Back

Women’s head coach Greg Ryan released the roster for the upcoming three-game series with Mexico, and guess who’s back on the roster? That's right—Hope Solo.

Solo1.jpg
Will Solo actually play in the series or will she play backup to Brianna Scurry?

Why the sudden change of heart? Have her teammates forgiven her so soon? Have Ryan and Solo actually worked out their differences?

It’s a little more realistic to think that Solo’s return to the National team has more to do with ticket sales and media coverage than anything else. Think about it—before the goalkeeping controversy the coverage of the Women’s World Cup was minimal to say the least, but as soon as Solo opened her mouth and bashed Ryan, every news station was covering something about the WCC.

Here’s the rest of the roster:
Goalkeepers: Nicole Barnhart; Briana Scurry; Hope Solo.
Defenders: Marian Dalmy; Tina Ellertson; Stephanie Lopez; Kate Markgraf; Christie Rampone; Cat Whitehill.
Midfielders: Shannon Boxx; Lori Chalupny; Angela Hucles; Carli Lloyd; Leslie Osborne; Aly Wagner.
Forwards: Natasha Kai; Kristine Lilly; Heather O'Reilly; Lindsay Tarpley; Abby Wambach.

So what do you think? Do you that Solo’s return is a gesture of goodwill or a plot to increase ticket sales?

MLS Playoffs: Five teams contend for two spots

With New York and FC Dallas clinching playoff spots during last weekend’s games, only two spots now remain, and both can be clinched this weekend. The teams that can secure their trips to the post season are the Kansas City Wizards and the Chicago Fire.

Here is how everything can work out this weekend:
Kansas City will take one of the remaining two spots if they defeat New York on Saturday. If they tie New York, LA and Colorado will have to both have to lose for Kansas City to book their playoff spot.

Chicago will clinch a spot if they defeat DC AND LA loses against Toronto on Saturday.

The Rapids playoff run will come to an end if they lose to Chivas on Sunday OR if they tie Chivas and Chicago earns at least one point against DC.

The Crew will be eliminated if they lose against New England. But if they defeat New England, they need a win from D.C. to keep their playoff run alive.

The Galaxy needs to win this weekend to keep their hopes alive. If they lose, they will be eliminated only if New York ties Kansas City and Chicago walks away with three points.

Also up for grabs this weekend is the Supports’ Shield. DC can walk away with it if they win on Saturday against Chicago and if Dallas beats Chivas USA.

U.S. Announces Roster for Switzerland Friendly

Bob Bradley released the names of the 21 players that will be on the roster for the Switzerland friendly on October 17. There are some new names on the roster like Tally Hall and Steve Purdy, while the biggest surprise is Real Salt Lake forward Robbie Findley being called up.

Bradley seems to have built his roster around the upcoming 2008 Olympic Team with U-20 players like Freddy Adu, Danny Szetela and Chris Seitz being called up.

Here’s the full roster:
GOALKEEPERS- Marcus Hahnemann (Reading FC), Tally Hall (Esbjerg), Chris Seitz (Real Salt Lake)
DEFENDERS- Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham FC), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Dan Califf (Aalborg BK), Jay Demerit (Watford FC), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock), Steve Purdy (1860 Munich)
MIDFIELDERS- Freddy Adu (SL Benfica), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Maurice Edu (Toronto FC), Benny Feilhaber (Derby County), Eddie Lewis (Derby County), Danny Szetela (Racing Santander)
FORWARDS- Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC), Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake), Preston Zimmerman (Hamburger SV), Sal Zizzo (Hannover 96)

Who would you like to see on this roster that is missing? Considering the United States’ record in Europe, is it a good idea to go with such a young team?

Americans Abroad: Hahnemann Registers Shutout

Last week, when Marcus Hahnemann played for Reading, he let seven goals in; this week was a different story, as Hahnemann posted a shutout as Reading defeated Derby, 1-0. Two other Americans were in that game, as Benny Feilhaber started and played 65 minutes for Derby County. As Feilhaber was subbed out, another American, Eddie Lewis, came on for him, playing the final 25 minutes of the match.

Here’s how the rest of the fellows did:

Over at Fulham, Kasey Keller played all 90 minutes in the 2-0 loss to Portsmouth. Also playing a full 90 were Carlos Bocanegra and Clint Dempsey.

Tim Howard played the full game in Everton’s 3-2 loss to Newcastle. Howard made nine saves.

Brad Friedel played 90 minutes in Blackburn’s 2-1 win against Birmingham.

Giuseppe Rossi was a busy man in Villareal’s 3-2 loss to Osasuna as he started, scored, drew a yellow card and played 90 minutes.

Steve Cherundolo played all 90 minutes in Hannover 96's 2-0 win against Stuttgart.

Jay DeMerit started and played 90 minutes for Watford in a 3-1 win against Scunthorpe.

Michael Bradley
played the first 72 minutes in Heerenveen's 9-0 victory against Heracles.

Oguchi Onyewu started and played 90 minutes in Standard Liege's 3-1 win against Germinal Beerschot.

Gregg Berhalter played a full 90 minutes in 1860 Munich's 2-0 win against FC Carl Zeiss Jena. Josh Wolff didn’t dress for 1860 Munich.

Dida Set to Be Charged

UEFA will charge AC Milan goalkeeper Dida with improper conduct for his behavior during the Champions League loss against Celtic.

Here’s the video clip of Dida’s acting performance for those of you who missed it:

It’s still unclear what the punishment will be. What do you think should happen to Dida? Should he face suspension? Or will a fine be punishment enough?

MLS Roundup: Galaxy Wins Four Straight

With the 2-1 win against the Houston Dynamo, the Galaxy have now won four straight games. Three of those games have been away games, which have always proven tough for the Galaxy. With wins from Colorado and Chicago this weekend as well, the Galaxy didn’t really gain any ground as they are still six points behind Chicago for that last playoff spot.

Toronto played two games this week—the first one was a win against New York, and their first win in 13 games, but the celebrating didn’t last too long as they lost on Sunday to the Colorado Rapids. TFC are now officially eliminated from the playoff race. The Rapids are still in the thick of it, and New York grabbed a playoff spot.

FC Dallas will be making the trip to the playoffs with a 3-1 win against the Crew. Chivas USA now sits in first place in the Western Conference with a 3-2 win against RSL. And, Chicago held on to that last playoff spot with a 2-1 win against New England.

U.S. to Play Sweden

In what's becoming an annual event, the U.S. Men's National Team will play Sweden on January 19th at The Home Depot Center in Carson. The game will be during the month-long National Team camp.

"That camp will largely be made up of domestic-based players," U.S. head coach Bob Bradley said. He also added that fans could expect Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Carlos Bocanegra, Oguchi Onyewu, DaMarcus Beasley and Clint Dempsey to make the nucleus of the team as they prepare for World Cup Qualifiers.

Who would you like to see Bradley give a chance to in camp?

Quota on Foreign Players

By the 2010/11 season, FIFA president Sepp Blatter wants to limit teams to six foreign players. Blatter's reasoning behind this? Apparently, the fact that clubs are fielding teams with no national players is stifling homegrown talent.

While many agree with the idea behind the plan, including UEFA's Michel Platini, it will be close to impossible for FIFA to enforce it in Europe, as the European Union allows for free labor movement.

While FIFA governs 208 associations, this idea to limit foreigners could very well work in other confederations, just not with the 29 EU members.

What do you think? Should FIFA ban the number of foreigners playing on a team or should they let clubs field the best team possible?

Who is the Best Player in the World?

kaka.jpg
(BBC Sport)

Who is the best footballer in the world? That is an argument being had in bars and pubs around the world. FIFPro came up with their answer though when they named AC Milan forward Kaka was named World Player of the Year.

This prestigious award was voted on by the 45,000 members of the players' union.

FIFPro also voted on a World XI which included: Gianluigi Buffon (Italy/Juventus); Alessandro Nesta (Italy/AC Milan), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy/Real Madrid), John Terry (England/Chelsea), Carles Puyol (Spain/Barcelona). Steven Gerrard (England/Liverpool), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Manchester United), Kaka (Brazil/AC Milan), Lionel Messi (Argentina/Barcelona), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast/Chelsea), Ronaldinho (Brazil/Barcelona)

What do you think? Did they name the right person? Is there someone missing on the World IX you think should be added?

Landon Donovan Wins Fourth Award

Los Angeles Galaxy forward and U.S. National Team star Landon Donovan won a record-breaking fourth U.S. Soccer Player of the Year. The award is sponsored by Honda, so LD also got to drive away in a new Ridgeline.

He's also won in 2004, 2003 and 2002, where he was the youngest player to ever win the award.

Donovan received 413 points in the balloting. Goalkeeper Tim Howard came in second with 122 points, and three-time finalist Carlos Bocanegra was third with 105 points. The voting was done by 203 journalist. First place votes received three points, second place received two points and third place received one point.

Who do you think should have been named the U.S. Player of the Year?

Americans Abroad: UEFA Cup

Lets see how the handful of Americans who played in Thursday's UEFA Cup matches did:

Michael Bradley played 58 minutes of the game. Unfortunately for Bradley and the rest of the guys at Heerenveen, they lost the series to Helsingborg on a 8-6 aggregate.

Another American who didn't have such a good day yesterday was Oguchi Onyewu who scored a goal, but was shown a red as as Standard Liege lost to Zenit St.Petersburg. Zenit made it to the next round.

Everton's Tim Howard made seven saves in Everton's 3-2 win against Metalist Khrakiv. Everton won the series 4-3 on aggregate.

Danny Califf's AaB won their series against Sampdoria.

Brad Friedel started and played 90 minutes in Blackburn's 2-1 win. Unfortunately, the win wasn't enough as Larissa won the series.

How do you think the Americans have been playing in the UEFA Cup?

Columbus Jersey - Update

Columbus%20Jersey.JPG

Not only did the Crew get a jersey sponsor yesterday, but they also got a new slogan: Glidden and the Columbus Crew: Who knows rebuilding better than we do?

As per MLS policy, the terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Glidden did sign a four-year deal and is now the most recognizable jersey sponsor in MLS.

Ricardo Clark Receives a Nine Game Suspension

Last weekend, Houston's Ricardo Clark kicked Carlos Ruiz during the 3-0 win against FC Dallas. Here's a YouTube video of the altercation:

Yesterday, MLS decided Clark's fate, which included a nine game suspension. The suspension will go on through the playoffs and the beginning next season. Clark will also not be allowed to play in any exhibition matches for Houston where admission is charged, but he will still be able to participate in FIFA sanctioned games such as the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

He was also fined an additional $10,000 which shouldn't put too much of a dent into his $195,000 a year salary. (He was already fined $250 for the red card.)

While the punishment is a little more severe than the crime, MLS Commission Don Garber made it clear that “this is unacceptable behavior from an MLS player.”

Garber went on to add that, “In taking this action, Major League Soccer is sending a signal that it will not accept reckless and dangerous behavior on its fields. If there is a repeat of this kind of behavior by any MLS player, even firmer sanctions can be expected in the future.”

Ruiz was also shown a red card that game for his role in the altercation, but the League hasn't announced his fate yet.

Looking at the video, Clark clearly kicks Ruiz, but knowing Ruiz's reputation - he had to have done something to warrant an attack from a normally mild player.

Check out what Soccer By Ives had to say about Clark's suspension.

OBJ would love to know your take on Ricardo Clark's suspension? Was it the correct one or was it too harsh?

MLS Week 27 Predictions

With all the teams playing this weekend and three playoff spots up for grab, it's going to be a soccer busy weekend.

The first game of the week features the Red Bulls taking on Toronto FC. This is a must win for Toronto as if they lose they will be eliminated from the playoff race, unfortunately for Toronto a loss is in the cards for them as the Red Bulls are just the better team, and they have a playoff spot on the line. One of their playoff scenarios include walking away with three points tonight.

DC United takes on the Kansas City Wizards tomorrow. Kansas City is struggling and DC is on a eleven game unbeaten streak. DC will walk away with three points.

On Saturday, FC Dallas plays the Crew. New England meets the Fire and Chivas plays Real Salt Lake. Looking at the last game of Saturday, Chivas will walk all over Real Salt Lake. They have nothing to play for anymore, and Chivas has a unbeaten streak to play for, then again so does RSL, as they haven't lost in four games. When New England meets the Fire, the Fire will have a lot to play for as the playoff race for that last spot got just a little bit more crowded. The Fire will walk away with a win, thanks to Blanco. Lastly, FC Dallas will defeat the Crew.

Sunday will future the Galaxy and Dynamo. The Galaxy is on a three-game winning streak (the last time the Galaxy had a winning streak was last season), but Houston is the last team they lost to. The Galaxy will have a tough time playing the Dynamo is Houston, but the Galaxy has a lot to play for and its beginning to look a lot like 2005.

The last game of the weekend will prove to be the most boring as Toronto FC takes on Colorado. Colorado should look for an easy win.

Beckham Returns to Training

Yesterday, David Beckham joined the rest the of the Galaxy for a light training. It was the first time since he's knee injury that Beckham has practiced with the team.

The question is now when will Beckham return. The brass at the Galaxy are hoping for a return against for the last home game of the season against the Red Bulls.

Crew's Jersey Sponsor

The Columbus Crew is joining Toronto FC, the Galaxy, RSL, New York, Chivas and Houston with a jersey sponsor.

gliddenlogo.jpg

The paint company Glidden will be the newest jersey sponsor to join MLS. Seven teams out of 13 now have jersey sponsors.

New England Wins Their First Title

New England Revolution forward Pat Noonan scored one goal and notched two assists to lead the Revolution to the U.S. Open Cup Championship. Taylor Twellman and Wells Thompson also scored for the Revs. Final score: 3-2.

The Revs finally broke their losing streak at Pizza Hut Park, as they lost the last two MLS Cup titles there.

Supreme Court Won't Hear Dorrance Case

The U.S. Supreme Court has decided not to hear arguments in the sexual harassment case against Anson Dorrance, former U.S. Women's National Team coach and current women's soccer coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dorrance.jpg
Anson Dorrance watching his Carolina Tar Heels from the sidelines. (Tarheelblue.com)

This suit dates all the way back to 1998, when former player Melissa Jennings first filed charges saying that Dorrance maintained an environment filled with sexual harassment.

The case will now be heard by U.S. Districk U.S. District Court Judge N. Carlton Tilley Jr. in Greensboro.

This suit started when Jennings was cut from a North Carolina team, which was known for not cutting players. She claims that Dorrance asked her and other members of the team about their sex life.

Anyone that knows Dorrance is quick to jump to his defense. The one question that has to be asked is - could this just be an angry girl who got cut from a team? If not, why hasn't anyone else come forward?

Dorrance might be one of the most decorated coaches in Women's Soccer, coaching a the National Team to several championships. With the Tar Heels, Dorrance has won 19 National Championships as well.

Beasley Scores

DaMarcus Beasley is now in the history books as the first American to score for different teams in Champions League, scoring for PSV two seasons ago and for Rangers yesterday.

As if a goal wasn't enough, Beasley also notched an assist as Lee McCulloch headed in Beasley's corner.

Other winners in Champions League Games:
Barcelona out played Stuttgart for a 2-0 victory. Manchester United won 1-0 against AS Roma. Sporting Libson score twice against Dynamo Kiev's one goal. Milan won 2-0 against PSV. Arsenal scored once at Steaua Bucharest, and Sevilla won 4-2 versus Slavia Prague.

Online Petition to Bring Her Boyfriend Back

In soccer, there have always been trades and loans and all sorts of different reasons for a player to be sent to a different team, so why does Patty Rodriguez of the Ryan Seacrest Show think its appropriate to start a petition to bring her boyfriend, Michael Munoz back from the California Victory to Chivas USA, where he was a member of the roster last season.

This by far might be the silliest thing I've ever heard a woman do for love. While some people are saying how romantic it is and how much she must love her man - I say she is selfish and thinking only of her own career. If Rodriguez loves Munoz so much, why doesn't she move up to Northern California and work there – aren’t there radio stations all over the country? I believe the answer is simple - working at the Ryan Seacrest Show is more lucrative than playing for the California Victory. More than that, it proves that even Rodriguez, someone who has been dating a professional soccer player for a few years, doesn't take professional soccer seriously. Can you imagine the girlfriend of an NFL player starting a similar petition? Of course not.

When Landon Donovan left MLS to go over to Germany, did his now wife, Bianca Kajlich, start a petition or get on the radio to cry about how unfair it was that he was gone? No, she supported him and waited for his return (which was a lot sooner than anyone could have imagined).

Apparently, Rodriguez has already convinced 800 well-wishers to sign the petition to show Chivas USA that people want her boyfriend back. I believe this petition speaks to the power of Ryan Seacrest and not at all to real soccer fans. I am willing to bet almost none of the signers have ever even been to a Chivas USA game.

I will be deeply disappointed in Chivas USA if I see Michael Munoz on their roster next season because well, he wasn't that good of a player to start with no matter whether he has a good relationship with Preki. An organization like Chivas, or any professional soccer team, shouldn’t be strong armed by a silly little girl and her famous friends. It will just make soccer look more like a joke than people already think.

My advice to Patty Rodriguez: You can't start a petition every time your boyfriend is sent off to play for another team. If being apart is too difficult for you, then maybe you need to date someone who isn't a professional athlete or you should be willing to move when he gets traded. Patty, what are you going to do if Michael Munoz does somehow become a great player and goes off to Europe?

FC Dallas and New England Meet Up Tonight

FC Dallas and the New England Revolution meet for the first time in a non-regular season match tonight for the U.S. Open Cup final. The only championship final Dallas has ever captured was the Open Cup ten years ago, so this game has a special meaning for them. On the other hand, New England has just had bad luck when it comes to Championship games - they make it all the way to the final, but just can't seemed to walk away with the trophy.

With both teams playing for the trophy and prize money, this will show to be an interesting game. New England has a little more to prove, as Pizza Hut Park hasn't been very good to them (they lost both the 2005 & 2006 MLS Cup games there).

If New England can capitalize on the mistakes that FC Dallas' defense is prone to make, and if Michael Parkhurst can keep tabs on Carlos Ruiz - New England can walk away with their first piece of silverware.

DC Just Can't Win in Mexico

Whatever reason, it seems that D.C. United just can't win in Mexico. Chivas de Guadalajara defeated D.C. in the second leg of the Copa Sudamerica, and will now move onto the next round.

If MLS teams want to become the powerhouses of the North and Central America, they are just going to have to win these games and the overall tournaments. Oddly enough, the only team that's come close to winning a U.S./Mexico tournament this year has been the Galaxy in the SuperLiga.

Teams like D.C. and Houston need to show their strength outside of MLS. They seem to be able to win at home, but once the series goes down to Mexico, they just can't get it together.

MLS Playoffs: Three Spots Up For Grabs

With three weeks remaining in the MLS season, three teams can grab up playoff births this weekend. Real Salt Lake was eliminated yet again from the playoffs, and Toronto FC's fate lies in this weekend's games.

Here's how everything needs to play out:

FC Dallas can clinch a playoff spot IF they beat Columbus this weekend.

Kansas City can book their playoff tickets if they defeat DC on Friday AND Columbus doesn't walk away with three points against FC Dallas AND Los Angeles snap their winning streak and fails to win on Sunday.

The New York Red Bulls have two scenarios this week to make the playoffs. If they defeat Toronto FC, they're in OR Columbus will need to fail to win against FC Dallas and the Houston will need to walk away with at least a point on Sunday against the Galaxy.

Unfortunately for Toronto, their fate is not in their own hands. If they lose against New York, they are eliminated from the playoff race, BUT they will also be eliminated if Chicago walks away with any points on Saturday against New England.

Fulham Gives Away Trip to LA

Fulham.gif

The Los Angeles Galaxy must be big time as Fulham will be giving two fans the opportunity to come out to California and watch the last Galaxy home game of the season against the New York Red Bulls.

If all goes well, David Beckham will be back in a Galaxy Jersey at that time, but who would have thought that a Premiership team would be giving away a trip to come out and see the Galaxy play?

For more information or to sign up for this contest, visit Fulham's Web site.

Fulham's American Boys

Keller1.jpg
(eteamz.active.com)

With the largest collection of American players, Fulham FC and American goalkeeper Kasey Keller was able to keep Chelsea to a 0-0 draw. While Keller made an agrument to keep the number one spot, Carlos Bocanegra probably had one of his stronger games of the season. Clint Dempsey was on the field as well, and although he didn't score a goal - he did collide with Chelsea captain John Terry, causing a fractured cheek bone.

Here's how the other Americans did this weekend:
Everton's Tim Howard earned a shut out against Middlesbrough.

Reading's Marcus Hahnemann played in the 7-4 loss to Portsmouth. For more on that game, check out Highest Scoring Premiership Game...EVER.

Brad Friedel played the full 90 minutes in Blackburn's victory of Sunderland.

Eddie Lewis played 84 minutes in Derby's 1-1 tie with Bolton. Watford's Jay DeMerit also played in a 1-1 tie with Blackpool.

Steve Cherundolo played the full 90 minutes in Hannover 96's 2-1 victory against Duisburg.

Michael Bradley started and played 90 minutes in Heerenveen's 2-0 loss to Feyenoord.

Danny Califf played 90 minutes in AaB's 3-2 victory against Viborg.

DaMarcus Beasley played the final 34 minutes in the Rangers 1-1 tie. While Freddy Adu played the final eight minutes in Benfica's 0-0 tie against Sporting Lisbon.

Frank Simek played the 90 minutes in Sheffield Wednesday's 1-0 victory against Norwich City.

Oguchi Onyewu played the 90 minutes in Standard Liege's 0-0 tie with St. Truiden.

Gregg Berhalter played 90 minutes i
