Old Trafford's Atmosphere Problem
Posted January 2, 2008 Posted Under: Culture & Business, EPL, OBJ: ChrisManchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, compared the Old Trafford crowd this weekend against Birmingham, “as quiet as a funereal”. Yet, the fans have been told that if they stand up at the match, they will be held accountable and have their season tickets taken away. Obviously, there is a problem between the old hardcore fans that love to contribute to the ambiance of the match, and the new money and families at the match. A solution to these problems is to bring back the standing only sections, thus eliminating both problems, and bringing in more fans.

What's Wrong With This Picture?
Standing room only sections were torn down and thrown out of most European venues after several disasters in matches which caused deaths and injuries. While the dangers of overcrowding and injuries are still prevalent, if limitations are put on how many are admitted and the standing only sections are on the lower level it could work. If standing room only sections are brought back into approved stadiums, the atmosphere with the fans and match would be at an epic level. As well, the club could reduce their expensive prices somewhat, allowing more of the population to frequent the matches and get out and support their clubs.
Looking at this idea from a negative light, standing room only stands caused many problems in the past, with many of the hooligans and overcrowding coming from these sections. Without seats, the club was able to shove as many people into one area, bringing in more money, but causing more problems. Yet, with many of these issues greatly reduced or solved, hooliganism the biggest, standing room only could be a great success.
What are you thoughts on the issue?

why not have 2 different scetions. My seat at Home Depot has an array of people I wish they'd segregate the seats a little better... Having kids sitting next to me makes the atmosphere a little too AYSO-ish...
