Ronaldinho linked to NY Red Bulls?

In the past few days Ronaldinho has been linked with a transfer to Manchester City and AC Milan. The 28 year old is currently warming the bench as Barcelona's young guns chase Real Madrid and prepare for Manchester United.

I’m surprised Ronnie hasn’t been linked to MLS. I have to wonder and ask what your thoughts would be on him joining the New York Red Bulls. Could the number 10 playmaker bring back Pele type attention at Giants Stadium?

Report: Ronaldo Was Doped as a Teenager

El Fenomeno’s career could be over after he ruptured the tendon in his left knee on Wednesday night. This is the third time that the player has suffered such an injury, and his career has been ravaged by similar physical problems over the past decade.

Ronaldo Was Doped

Bernando Santi says that the reason why Ronaldo has suffered so many injuries is because when he signed for PSV Eindhoven in 1994 as a 17-year-old, he was regularly pumped full of anabolic steroids in order to build up the player physically and help him grow.

As a result Ronaldo then developed muscles that were unable to co-exist with his knee’s bone structure, leading to devastating problems in later years.

"I spoke to colleagues in Holland who know people at PSV,” Santi told the daily Folha de Sao Paulo.

“I did not get to talk to PSV doctors. They gave supplements to Ronaldo, who was very thin, and among those supplements they included some anabolic substances which could make him grow a bit more.”

Santi is in no doubt that it was these drugs that have caused the injuries.

"It is a consequence of having grown beyond what his muscles were prepared to grow," he insisted.

"He gained muscle mass very fast, when he still had not reached maturity. The bill for the use of steroids shows up long term, 10, 15 or 20 years later."

Ronaldo Was Abused - Socrates

Brazilian legend, Socrates, who is actually a fully qualified doctor in medicine, says that Ronaldo’s problems are as a result of the “abuse” he was subjected to earlier in his career.

"This was a pre-announced injury," the ex-Corinthians and Fiorentina star said.

"There is a difference between Ronaldo's muscle mass and the tendons on his knee. We have all seen Ronaldo grow too fast at the start of his career. That destroyed his knees forever.”

Santi Sacked

Since making these sensational comments, Santi has been sacked by the CBF, who feel that his words were inappropriate given the tough time Ronaldo is going through due to his injury.

"The CBF considered inappropriate his comments on a player who is going through such a delicate time," CBF spokesman Rodrigo Paiva told Brazilian sports news website UOL Esporte.

It remains to be seen the wider reaction in the football world to Santi’s bombshell.

Romario's Hair Care Ban

Romario recently has tested positive for a banned substance, but unlike the baseball players of the United States, Romario has tested positive for the substance, finasteride, not “HGH”.

Finasteride, while used as a masking agent to cause false negative steroid tests, is the leading component in the hair-growth product Propecia. Romario started using Propecia, because he had started too bald on the back of his head, causing him to look somewhat like the Brazilian “Friar Tuck”. After all, Romario needs to look good for the women around Vasco de Gama for he most famously stated that all footballers should have sex on the days of their matches, because it makes their legs “feel more nimble”.

Romario appealed the decision for suspension, but yesterday it was voted 3-2, that Romario was to serve a 120 game ban. The footballer could look at the bright side, because with this ban he can try to re-grow some more hair while on the sidelines. Romario now forty one, is the (player-) manager for Vasco de Gama, and isn’t banned from managing on the touchline. Amazingly, if his contract is extended, the forty one year old might play again. He better be careful though, pretty soon he might have to use "other pills", for male enhancement, that could cause another ban?

Soccer Super Star Event

Organizers of the Free Kick Masters soccer superstar challenge have rescheduled the Houston event.

The Free Kick Masters, which was to have been played at Reliant Stadium on Dec. 22, has been reset for July 5, 2008. The shootout event features top-rated free-kick specialists pitted against some of the world's premier goalkeepers, competing for $1.5 million in prize money.

The event features a lengthy roster of international stars such as Brazil's Ronaldinho, Germany's Bernd Schneider and controversial legend Zinedine Zidane of France, lured out of retirement for the competition.

An event spokesman said Tuesday that an unforseen scheduling conflict with soccer leagues in Spain (LFP) and Italy (Lega Calcio) as well as soft ticket sales resulted in the switch.
"Coming in the middle of soccer season (in July) will give it much more visibility, and hopefully the (Houston) Dynamo can get a much higher profile at the event," said Jordan Pincu of Noisemaker Communications.

This event is a great idea to further increase the spectical of the beautiful game in the United States. Dislaying the skills of the best free kick takers and goalies will also show how these athletes are some of the best in the world. What's your opinion on this event?

Holy Kaka!

AC Milan playmaker Kaka sees himself becoming an evangelical minister when he quits playing soccer.

"I would like that a lot," Kaka said in interview in the December issue of the Italian version of GQ, which was posted on the magazine's website Wednesday. "It's a difficult road - you have to study theology and deepen your study of the Bible."

The deeply religious Kaka nearly always raises both of his arms to the sky after he scores goals.

"An evangelical minister reads the Bible and conveys the duties," Kaka said. "It's not so easy to apply to today's society things that were written thousands of years ago. But that's exactly the job of a minister - to make the teaching of the Bible relevant."

After his team beat Liverpool in the final, Kaka revealed a T-shirt stamped with the words, "I belong to Jesus."
Kaka is widely expected to be awarded the Golden Ball as Europe's best player and FIFA World Player of the Year title this month.

"I'm aware that I'm among the best, but I haven't reached (my full potential)," Kaka said. "I can still improve. I'm 25 and therefore I still have room for improvement."

Kaka's wife Caroline is due to give birth to the Brazilian couple's first child in five months.
