Posted January 7, 2008 Posted Under: EPL, OBJ: Chris, VideosAs a new blog idea, for all of the English fans, I thought I’d start teaching some of you eager hooligans and new fans, some great and historic songs. English football, notorious for its super fandom and draped in its glorious history, has some of the wittiest banter and chants around.
Today I introduce “Poor Scouser Tommy”. This song has a famous background and is sung by the club with the wittiest fans in my opinion, Liverpool. Tommy, a fictional character, is the name for the men and boys who left their homes, and fought in both World Wars. Here is a poem that outlines what the song represents, and explains where some of the lyrics have come from. As well, there is a video which also outlines the history and displaysthe lyrics of the song. It’s a great song, with a grand history, that can be heard around Anfield on many of the match days.
